January 24, 2011
Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week, we will be working on the following:

Phonograms 1-65
Addition strategies
Symbols on a map
Plants growing and changing
Words with s and r blends
Using was, were, going, went in sentences
Poetry
Using a glossary

IMPORTANT DATES:
None this week

UPCOMING TESTS:
Thursday – phonogram
Friday – Spelling

HOMEWORK:
Monday – Write spelling words from list #1 5 times each and write at least 5 sentences using spelling
words

Tuesday – Write spelling words from list #2 5 times each and write at least 5 sentences using spelling
words

Wednesday/Thursday – Language Arts worksheets and/or Math worksheets

Friday – If all students turn in their homework, there will be no weekend homework; otherwise, Language Arts worksheet and/or Math worksheet

FYI:

Please return report card envelopes signed by next Friday.

We will now have 20 words for spelling instead of 10. This is to prepare students for second grade. Some of the students who are still struggling in spelling will only get one list (10 words). On short weeks, we will only have 15 words. Notice the change in homework for Mondays and Tuesdays.

We will start doing addition speed drills once a week soon. This is to prepare students for second grade, also.

We are still collecting Box Tops for Education.

Sincerely,
Beth Hernandez
